Hi All...and Happy Saturday!
This one's for Jilly (JillianElf), a brilliant artist, and a woman I am happy to now call friend. She mentioned after my yesterday's post that she was partial to obsidian...so this one's yours, Jill...a small orb, obsidian inside :)
A little about the stone:
Obsidian is a powerhouse in the stone world. It is an igneous rock, not considered a true *mineral* because it is not genuinely *crystalline* despite its clear black appearance. It is thought to dispel negativity. Contrary to popular belief, its blackness is not one of dark connotations, but rather, it absorbs and, banishes negativity. Because of this, it is particularly useful for those sensitive creatures prone to depression. It corresponds to the planet Saturn, Saturday, and also represents agriculture (growth), creativity, fortune and hope, but, mostly, protection.
I've never previously done a fractal series of anything of any importance to me, but I'm thinking I'd love to do a run of various stones and their representations here. Any suggestions? I'd really love some leads if you're up to it. I think it would be challenging and great fun to seek them out.
Wishes for a great weekend..And, always, again my thanks to each of you for previous comments. You're a brilliant and wonderful bunch..and I'm touched beyond measure to have you in my life...even if confined to this little online venue. Your presence far exceeds the boundaries of this place :)
Thoughts and hugs!
Nancy~*

I'm pretty late to these posts of yours (sorry about that) but this one is fantastic! I keep imagining a lush broach from Empirial France or Rome. It might interest you that the Ancient Mayans considered obsidian to be sacred as well as a valuable tool-material. All sacred implements were made of obsidian, including the most elaborate and complicated flaked-stone blades ever made. (oh, and Mel Gibson's movie notwithstanding, Mayans seldom used those knives for human sacrifice, but rather priests used them for blood-letting rituals that allowed them to have visions) As for other stones, I'm not sure what to suggest, except possibly Alabaster?
