Taking in the wonderful Inverpolly Nature Reserve, yesterday afternoon.

Our plans for the weekend were to cover some 6 Munros starting from Poolewe by the coast, staying two nights in the hills, wild camping, and a night in the hotel in Dundonnell at the end.
Humpt....
Things went a bit pear shaped from the start on Friday afternoon.
A ten mile hike into the wilderness of Fisherfield for night one, started off with two and a half miles along a track in the driving rain to a dead end, and two and a half miles back, in the driving rain, to pick up the proper trail....a ten mile hike became a fifteeen mile nightmare race against the dark.
We eventually arrived, soaked through, in the pitch black, at a delapidated cow barn where I spent a completely sleepless night...no wonder the cows left it...but at least it was dry.
Dawn came grey, windy and wet, we changed our plans, went up only two out the six Munros and walked out again to Poolewe completely exhausted having covered about 37 miles, most of it in the rain, carrying extra heavy rucksacks....
Honestly I was down to a hunched shuffle for the last few misrable wet miles back to Poolewe.
I'm thinking of taking up stamp collecting now.
Anyway we managed to salvage something out the weekend as by Sunday afternoon the weather had picked up and we enjoyed a scramble up the amazing Stac Polly...a real treat by comparison and got some great shots of one of the nicest parts of Scotland.

It is an amazing view! Love the cloud shadows. Sorry it was so arduous a trip but the results are spectacular! As well as some delightful stories to tell by a warm winter fire.

Nice POV ( one of your best photos ), and I am sorry about the troubles of the weekend, Anthony, but you are here to tell about it, and at least were accompanied. The picture was worth it. Anyway the old cow shed/shelter had a roof and was dry, and you didn't have to share it with the kine. Even worse would have been some wet sheep.. Enjoy the week back at work!!! ;o) Regards, John.

Very fine shot... but don't choose pipe & slippers just yet. BTW, I just spent two weeks travelling all around the coast from Oban to Aberdeen and it rained virtually the whole time.

I'm cracking up with laughter... I can just see the frustration and the thought that even the livestock took a hike --- out of there --- was a priceless vision. When I was a bit younger, I had a few experiences like this... once went camping in an area that was suppose to be warming up with the June thaw. Found out while unpacking, hubby forgot to bring any blankets for the night so I sent him back while I pitched camp. 30 minutes into set up and it began to snow...hard... and it was dang cold being up in the Sierra Mountains next to a deep lake - famous around here for its gusting winds year 'round! Hubby was delayed by the weather so I had to make up my own warm corner to huddle as the sun went down. It got better...the next morning I took a fishing pole to the lake, wrapped in woolen blankets and fished. Got enough bass for breakfast and lunch! But, hey, back to this shot. This is an awesome vista! Standing on top of the world with all of its treasures at your feet. Gorgeous pov and fantastic mood!

spectacular view... reminds me that my own country isnt lacking in wonderful landscapes when viewing valleys kilometres below me here in peru. I like the depth here with the clarity and saturation of the foreground and then off into the "mist" of the distance. At least something good came out of the experience :)

With all that rain and miserable hiking conditions you have the right to grumble! You certainly have the wilderness spirit to hang in there! I love this shot, such a fabulous view...just amazing! No stamp collecting for you, you would go nuts in one day. Thanks for sharing your adventures! Aloha~

First of all, I'm in awe of this shot. My god it's gorgeous. Bravo on you, my friend! Secondly, wow at your story. You 'scots' sure know how to put up with some lousy conditions! You give the word 'intrepid' new meaning. Loved to read your 'grumbles'...It really fleshed out the whole 'picture' for me. Again, great shot, Anthony. I'm sorry but I laughed and laughed. Memories of freezing rain, the smell of wet wool, painful fingertips, sand in your ears. But what a smashing photo. It looks like another planet.
