Description

Thanks to all who commented on my last photo. Here is another West African killifish from around Lagos, Nigeria. He is about 2" long. Most pet stores don't carry killifish. Their needs are somewhat specialized, although not very difficult. They also cannot be raised in large enough numbers to be commercially viable. I raised this one myself.

I really love fish and have my more common tropicals, and it's nice to see more specialized species that are more difficult to acquire. This is a magnificent killifsh, the coloring is fantastic, and he's a natural at posing for the camera! Mine always swim away when I get close to the tank! LOL! Excellent capture!

Wonderful shot! You know the "Fighting Fishs" from Thailand?

Like the Bettas from Thailand, male killies can be intolerant of other males. The males display like this when other males are present and to entice the females to spawn. Unlike Bettas, many killies will tolerate other males if they are raised together, but if you ever separate them you can't put them back together.

A lovely Killifish and they are quite extraordinary in the eggs may lay dormant in a dried up lake until the rains when they will hatch!
