Description

I was feeling fanciful when I saw this photo. The dragonfly looked to me like a Fairy! To get this photo was a small feat. The dragonfly landed on top of my hibiscus bush, which is probably over 9ft. tall. I stretched all 5'4" of me as far as I could go, holding the camera up and out and as steady as I could... This was the result! This was my first dragonfly! I have been chasing them all week. I have them all over the place. I even had one posing for me today. I haven't had time to look at the pictures yet. I sure hope some of them turn out, it was breezy and everything was moving! Thank you for your comments on my last upload, "Mantis". Have a wonderful day! ~hugs~

Nice POV and capture. I am aware of just how elusive these little winged wonders can be. They are pretty hard to even see much less capture. Your Dragonfly is actually a pond Damselfly. They are related to Dragonflies but Damselflies are much much smaller than Dragonflies. Yours is holding it's wings in a typical manner for Damselflies at rest. Dragonflies hold theirs out to the side or slightly forward. Your Damselfly has a noticeable space between it's eyes. Dragonfly eyes touch each other. I remember how frustrating it was to get my first pic of either but eventually I got one, then another , then some more and so on. The first one seems to be the hardest to capture. Thanks for sharing and I am looking forward to seeing your 2nd and 3rd. Lee

beautiful damselfly and a fine capture. dragonflies and damselflies seem to be creatures of habit and if you stand still, often they will return to their perch.they are looking for insects flying by and also for mates.on my last damselfly post it left it's vantage point several times but always returned.better than my first damsel for sure
