Description

Here's an older one that I thought I would add to the gallery. The concept of the piece was to create a feeling of a very cold, remote location and drop a group of people and equipment into the middle of it. In this scene the crew of Arctic research station 12 meets the supply ship at the rendezvous point in Severnaya Basin. I ended up using alphas for the human figures in the scene as I was unable to source any decent, modern cold weather gear for M3 and friends : ( Thanks to Thor Danielsen for his unique Stinger heavy lift aircraft model.

Beautiful serenity, I can hear the stillness interrupted only by the throaty idle of the deisel. Great looking ship. Given the cloud cover this is one of those cases where soft cast shadows would really be a nice touch. Otherwise, gorgeous shot.

Amazing light and shadow!! Splendid work, and the tracks in the snow from the truck are sweet, not sure how you got those in there lol, wish I knew. And yes, it looks very cold, anybody needs me I'll be by the heater!! I also like the simplicity here, straight to the point, no clutter lol! +5!

"I ended up using alphas for the human figures..." What's an "alpha"? I assume it refers to alpha channel, but what is an alpha? Is it a two dimensional image from somewhere else (where?) that was laid down in the alpha channel of this image? It is a very nicely composed image. Simple (non-crowded), but very effective.
