Description

A companion piece to my last B&W "Moon, Venus, Snake", this is the entrance to the West River Community Recreation Center in Dickinson, North Dakota. The water slide is off to the left of this building. Rec centers in general are fairly large (70,000 to 100,000 sq feet), so it really takes 2-3 days of shooting to capture all of the various areas required by a client. My favorite exterior shots are at the break of dawn, and sunset. This of course makes for a very long day, but this is so much fun to do, it does not seem like commissioned work lol. The toughest part of this particular shot, was to have no people going through the front doors! This facility opens at 5:30 AM, with a line forming at 5:15 AM... Hope everyone has a great week! Kurt

Having photographed architecture on a professional bases, I can understand every point you make. To bad the client did not give you some ease, especially when considering that the center opens at 5:30 in themorning with a line forming. I take it this seven days a week? I find mornings best for architecture and by ten or twn-thirty I call it day and move to the interior as the light is to dramatic, unless in is late autumn or winter with cooler Kalvin temperatures. Keep up the very good work. Thank you for sharing. egmont

To cameraobscura2 , Yes, I too move on to interiors about the same time, though I have to scramble between both exterior and interior at the "magic" times when doing the aquatic shots lol, because of the amount of glass utilized for swimming pools. Great light is always around the corner :) Cheers, Kurt

Wonderful architectural shot, Kurt. I like you preferences for the time of day in taking your photographs. It is very peaceful then, and it shows in your work. Line forms at 5:15 a.m.? Wow! Hugs, Suzanne
