Description

We spent two days at Glacier NP and never saw a glacier, which is truly sad, since they'll probably all be gone in a decade. When we arrived and for the first day, the air was full of so much smoke from a fire somewhere upwind that we couldn't see much of anything. That evening it rained hard; I don't know whether that put the fire out, but the next day all of the smoke was gone. However, the cloud ceiling was well below the tops of the mountains, so we still didn't see glaciers, just a few snowfields. It's still a beautiful place, and I intend to go back again, hopefully when the weather is better. This shot was taken from very near the highest place on the road through the park, looking back the way we've just come up. I liked the way it shows the road just notched into the mountainside and how low the clouds were. Thanks for stopping by and any comments.

Usually when I see a cloud close up, it's just fog. This is an amazing shot! Full view is like being there.

A beautiful view. I haven't been there for many years. Sorry the clouds prevented your viewing any glaciers.

It's fascinating how the trees seem to be growing in straight lines up the mountain and interesting to see the road cutting through so precisely! I like the contrast between the mountain and the soft, puffy clouds. I can just see the clouds curling and roiling around, clinging to the icy glaciers and hiding them from you.

You must have been on the "Going to the Sun" highway that runs from the West to the East Glacier Park entrances. Was Logan Pass in the clouds? If you go back stay at Many Glacier lodge, the view from the back out to lake and mountains is breath taking! Thanks for sharing.

This is a beautiful view even without being able to see the tops of the mountains, so imagine how beautiful it would have been without the clouds. We didn't see the tops on our trip there in June either. Maybe they don't have tops, perhaps that is just a myth to draw tourists.
