Description

Still about 1 mile (1,5 kilometers) to go to Sella-Pass (Passo di Sella). There you have this spectacular and overwhelming view on the peaks of the so called Langkofel/Sasso Lungo-group. From left to right: Grohmannspitze ('Grohmann-Peak'), Fünffingerspitze ('Five-Fingers-Peak') and Langkofeleck ('Langkofel-Corner'). A little background on the names: * Grohmannspitze: (3081 mtr) is named after the famous Austrian mountaineer Paul Grohmann (1838-1908) who was a pioneer in climbing Dolomite-peaks. He's one of the founders of the Österreichische Alpenverein (Alpine Club of Austria). * Fünffingerspitze: (2998 mtr) with a little imagination one can see a giant hand in stone if looking at this peak. On the right you'll find the so called 'thumb'. * Langkofeleck: (3081 mtr) the southern part of the Langkofel. The main peak (3181 mtr) can't be seen in this shot since it's hidden behind this huge wall of stone. Enjoy! As always I would like to thank everybody for your nice comments on my last upload, "Dolomiti #1". Paul

Magnificent capture, Paul. It's even more impressive when I noticed the size of the trees in the lower right.
