Description

Using Bryce 6.0 with Daz|Studio imported characters (Millennium Dragon 1.0, Millenium Cat). I'm experimenting with applying stock Bryce textures to the Daz|Studio characters. Import the characters into Bryce, then "ungroup" them and apply the Bryce textures to the various parts of the characters. The yellowish dragon "skin" is actually a texture intended for fruit! Shrinking the Millennium Dragon turns it into a "Fire Lizard" (see Anne McCaffrey). And, yes, I'm perfectly capable of spending a good chunk of my waking hours making complex backgrounds and settings (putting this in a kitchen would be nice) but am lazy enough to just demonstrate the general concepts with which I'm experimenting.

Love the humour here! Just great! Don't feel bad about the background. I feel the same way!

I do the same with poser characters into vue. Genearlly speaking I get better results using the materials native to the program I'm rendering. This looks pretty good, but I have a few suggestions. First, experiment with scale. Also, sometimes you get better results by pushing up the bump depth (or whatever its called in Bryce.) The cat especially lacks depth in the texture -although fur can be a bastard to mimic anyway. Anyway, good first attempt and I hope my suggestions were useful.

Thanks, cyberknight1133. Very useful comments. You're right about the materials native to a program working better. I'm finding that mixing materials from different programs can cause interesting, unintended, artifacts. In this case, I agree that (at least with the cat) that the textures are pretty pedestrian. So far in my limited experience I'm finding that Poser (I have Poser 5 - hey, it was cheap) gives me the most flexibility with hair/fur. Again, good suggestions that I will take to heart.
