Description

On our way to Little Uhebebe Crater, Death Valley Thanks for your very kind comments on my yesterday posting!! Yes, its only a relatively short hike to the bottom of the Uhebebe crater, however we decide to go to the Little Uhebebe. This was uphill through loose gravel like material. On the right hand side you see the Uhebebe crater and the RV on the photo was ours!! The two other vehicles are from one of the California Universities, those students went down into the crater. For us one of the reasons to go in a different direction ……….. to enjoy the silence and the stormy wind. Uhebebe Crater: A very interesting point in the north of Death Valley is the Uhebebe-crater, which is about 150 meters deep. The crater is the result of a powerful eruption which took many thousand years ago place; the summit of the volcano at that time, was blown away!!! Not visible on the photo, was the very strong wind , but the temperature was quite pleasant, not as hot as on the floor of Death Valley . Have a very nice evening, Henk, the busy “summer” painter (= ....... decorating my house, I’m making progress .... LOL)

fascinating. And we murmur about Mt.St.Helen and the portion of mountain we lost with it's eruption... this is just as awesome and unlike Mt.St.Helen this crater can be explored now.

A desolate, but still beautiful scene. Well done, Henk.
