Returning once again to Humanity's First Interstellar War:
Earlier posts had scenes from a raid on a convoy of cargo transports which can be seen here (among others):

And, while the new escort class frigates have saved the cargo transports, it isn't an entirely clean victory. Here a missile has scored a near-miss on an escort frigate. The missile's sensors attempted to time the detonation of its warhead to the closest pass; in order to hopefully catch the ship in the blastwave, if not with a direct impact. In this case, the missile has succeeded, as the ship can already be seen bending under the shockwave, and parts are breaking off. Perhaps the command-module with its engines will survive, but the combat module appears doomed.
Ships all assembled by me in Bryce, with mostly cusomized or altered textures. Background in Photoshop with the "Glitterato" plugin. Explosion effect is done in Photoshop CS.

Great effect ! Thanx for sharing, the tutorial is quite excellent - You could add some pieces of the ship blowing out or just some little dark spots on a top layer using Dissolve mode - Keep on !
