Description

One of the roads taken on our trip.. It has a lot of history to it. It is desolate in some areas but has its own beauty and solitude in other regions.. Back in 1986, Life magazine referred to Nevada's portion of U.S. 50, a two-lane highway bordered mostly by sagebrush, as the "loneliest road" in America. It's reputation for loneliness is merited. In the stretch of highway between Fallon, Nevada and Delta, Utah, a span of 409 miles, there are only three major towns: Austin, Eureka and Ely. And they are sparsley populated. In all, U.S. 50 traverses nine mountain passes between Fallon and the Utah border. This gives it an elevation range between approximately 4,000 and 7,000 feet with each pass. It also follows the path of the Pony Express routes of the early 1860's...

I drove in a 50' Chevy souped up 6 cylinder on Highway 50 in 1965 or 66 into Carson from up north before any interstate. I was wondering if I would see any of the Cartwrights-haha I forgot all about it until I looked at the map beautiful place and capture

Been to Ely and I got to say, no matter how you approach it, it is on a lonely stretch of road with little to look at. Great shot and the pov is perfect.

I really enjoyed reading the 'about' very interesting. We have roads like this in South Africa, especially through the Free State. The photo had a wonderful perspective. The narrowing of lines on the sides of the road give the whole picture a great depth, the textures are great and the bikes give it human interest making it not just a 'landscape' :) Hugs Sylki PS Thank you for commenting on 'Cat' much appreciated

'Get your motor runnin', head out on the highway, looking for adventure, and whatever comes our way....' This photo is just like the 'Born To Be Wild'-song of Steppenwolf: a real classic. This is how I imagine the Wild Wild West. Great shot!!
