Description

I just realized in the photo collage you couldn't see the 1882 that is on the building. That is not the address, but the year it was built. This is some information I found in research: Built in 1882 after Cochise County was established the building stood as a symbol of law and order in the wild region of Tombstone. It included the jail, courthouse, law library, and offices of sheriff, county recorder, county treasurer and board of supervisors. Noted lawmen who served the county were Burt Alford, who vacillated from one side of the law to another. Then there was a cattleman named John Slaughter who wiped out outlaws, rustler and renegades. And let's not forget the Earps - lawmen, gunfighters, gamblers and saloon keepers. The side courthouse was where the scaffold for hanging outlaws was constructed. Renovated and turned in to a museum in 1959, the courthouse is worth a visit. As you can tell, I enjoyed (and still am enjoying through these photos) my trip to Tombstone. I want to go back already; I think I missed a lot! Thanks for viewing!

Interesting photo and info narrative on that old building, young lady. Of course, take away that big tree in the middle of the photo and you would have been home free with a fantastic capture. BTW. before you can enter the courthouse you have to hand your six shooters and gun belt over to the clerk at the counter.
