Description

Image I have been working on over the last few days. Done for my own satisfaction, and a chance to play around with the various types of light in WB, and using the Linear diameter settings to achieve softer shadows.

You are my new hero! This is stunning! I own world builder and have not been able to make so much as a hill with it yet. :( Your shore line is great! the lighting (atmosphere overall) is stunning. Is the character from poser? This is a beautiful work. I wish I could figure out worldbuilder.

Outstanding. I really like this image. I so much wish I can use WB right now, but I need a graphics card. The lighting is seemingly right on. Along with everything else.

Thanks for all your comments. Its always good to get feedback after posting a image. This image uses 6 lights. 1 Parallel and 5 spot lights. All the spot lighs have a low intensity, so as not to "Over light" the scene, and all have different colours. Only one light is casting a shadow, and this is the Parallel light. The linear diameter setting is on the first set of parameters for the light. "Light on". Set Linear diameter to anything above 0. It takes a fair bit of test rendering to get the required result, buts it worth it in the end. It does however add to the rendering time. I find between 1 and 5 seems to work fine. Try it out on a simple image, say one tree in a empty landscape. Another tip is to change the shadow settings for trees. I also use hires shadow maps. To Calseeor. Keep trying and dont give up on WB. It does take time, buts it worth it in the end. It took me a good 6 months before I could even create a decent hill.

Thanks for the information on the lighting and shadowing, the experience of an other user is always better then the online-help. I also agree with the last words, keep trying (things out) and don't give up on WB.

Nice work capt! like several others posting here, I am a WB newbie. I guess I got spoiled by using Bryces'intuitive interface(and graphic man- ual) for all these years. But, since I am a serious animator and I like the idea of being able to convincingly render waves and moving grass and foliage, WB is the best option. It's good to hear that it took you a while to get where you're at as well.
