Description

Please pardon the quality of this photo. It is about 4 yrs old but the quality of the camera wasn't nearly as good as the one we have now. I was also overtired and emotional (it had been music festival week). This experience was just overwhelming for me. The focus to me is not the fine Zulu guy silhouetted against the skyline..(That's a fairly natural concept)...it's knowing where he is. It's midsummer in Scotland 2003 and he's sitting on top of one of the Callanish Stones on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland. We own the Blackhouse (tradional thatched house) next to these Standing Stones but I grew up just outside Durban, South Africa. The singing,dancing Gospel Choir group that this guy was with were amazing...the fact that they'd come all this way was even more astounding (they'd had to travel on a ferry for the first time in their lives!). I have not seen anyone manage to climb the 'stones since. (Other than a few of the local children) I've seen a few adults try ;-) These guys were happily jumping on and off them and posing suspended inbetween them (I messed up that photo) Thanks for LOoking Fairy Blessings Emma
