Description

There's this very cool site where you can download Blender Challenges The fruit challenge is Number 1, at the bottom of the page. You might get a kick out of looking at how people have handled these challenges even if you don't know a thing about Blender! There are some very creative, interesting images there. I did not model this fruit! This is the way the challenge comes. All I did with this was light it. After spending a million years on the Bottle Challenge (#4), I wanted to try something different - more artsy and less technical. So I rendered this in original gray, with a/o and Ray (to give it a grainy look), and a two-light setup. Then I took the render into Photoshop, increased the contrast, applied a filter or two, and smudged the background in order to bring out the fruit more. I'm sure this is totally outside the original intent of the challenge, but what I wanted was something different, something that looked like a cross between 3-D, a drawing, and a photograph.

Now this was a challenge. This looks like a black and white sculpture or painting, the texture so smooth and unflawed, and, may I dare say, the appearance of plastic. You did a superb job in postworking this still life piece of art; the old Dutch masters would be proud of you. The reflectivity and light/shadow effects are exquisite in this macro. Finally, the only Blender I'm familiar with is the one sitting on my kitchen counter.
