Description

Just playing around with the Vue 6 PLE. But this actually started with some tests in Onyxtree with wind effects on palms. Well, no better place for the trees than a tropical island ;) One problem quickly appeared, though. There had to be some actual waves, given the windy conditions, texturing, bumps etc. alone wouldn't be enough. So I had to experiment with the terrain editor to make something that could pass as braking waves. The solution I came up with looks OK, but not more than that. The mixed- materials water texture (height sensitive) helps it a bit :) Vue 6 PLE render, some 20 min. with "User Settings" and global ambience. Thanks for viewing, comments always welcome and appreciated. Have a nice day - Lars

The waves don't look bad at all but what I am impressed with is the surf effect - that is very good indeed.

Looks good :-) And thank you for the idea of how to make waves. I would never have thought of that!

Hmmm... this is a nice change from your normal works :) I think the waves are pretty ok, about as good as you can get without using something else to make them outside of Vue, but I do want to critique it a bit, if you don't mind :) I think the windy aspect gets lost in the waves and foams when you see the crystal clear, glassy water surface. It should be a LOT more in the choppy area of textering, but I don't mean choppy in a large scale, just more choppy other then perfectly glassy smooth. Hope that makes sense? And maybe toss in a couple of "distractions" in the waves so that they aren't all so lined up evenly straight down the length of the shore line. Maybe even just rotating the ngle of the terrain so that the waves aren't coming in on a perpendicular angle to the shore line might do it? As for the palm trees, they look good for the most part, but again, too much similarity amoung them, at least IMHO :) Anyway, work on this style of scene a bit more and I think you'll be there! So keep it up! ........md :)

As a hobbyist beginner and don't know a lot except nature and lived at the beach for years here in Ca a few less palms room between them would give the wind effect a lot more realistic view I think: but it's a fantastic start for you and waiting to see more excellent work::it does deserve 5 vote

Waves are so hard! I think you've got a really good start there, though. I'm definitely getting the feel of movement.

Good work effectively on the waves abd trees. One surprising thing is the stripes of sand perpendicular to the water and the wind direction.
