Description

At the end of August, we decided to dig a pond in Marie’s garden. Just two hours after the water was in the pond, the first dragonfly appeared ! And the next days, while we were busy planting flowers and plants in and around the water, the same dragonfly was flying very fast in circles, chasing away any intruder in his new territory… Yesterday, his behavior was somewhat different : the dragonfly was now sitting on branches or stones along the water and I was able to take some pictures ! I’m proud and happy that this beautiful insect is the first inhabitant of our newly created pond ! I think (?) this dragonfly is a female Southern Hawker (Aeshna cyanea), also known as the Blue Darner.
