Beautiful softly polished brass mechanism! Makes me think of old fashioned wind up Grandfather's clock, you know which I mean, those tall clocks that stand on the floor with the big pendulum that swings back and forth moving the clock's mechanism. Inside is the mechanism for the chimes that are played each quarter hour, and the deeper "bong bong etc." that are struck every hour. This is like that striker inside, making that bong bong sound that tells the hour.
