Description

Just a little Americana in the hills... Being an Andy Griffith fan, I couldn't resist checking out Ain't B's Bakery/BBQ/Cafe/Gift Shop. Wouldn't you know it, the place was closed. High noon and no one in sight. A neighbor said the lady who ran it was at the doctor's office and would return shortly. Life is somewhat different here ... I don't recall seeing a food place in the city closed at lunchtime because the owner had to leave for a bit. Ya gotta love it... Took some shots while I was waiting, but after a while I continued on up the road to find other sights. Sure was lookin' forward to some fine home cooking for a change...

A slower pace, my friend! Nicely captured, and I love the story to go with it.

It's a slice of American pie! We had one here when I was little. The owner Pete would leave the door open when he went fishing so no one would miss ameal. The lady downstairs would let him know who had been in. It wasn't unusual to find the priest from St. Mary's or Steve's Aunt Rose behind the griddle. People would cook a while and then return to their lives. It was an amazing place to spend time. Thanks for the memories.

I remember when I was young and moved from a bustling city to the country. I saw new things like black wreaths on shop doors when a family member died, "gone on vacation and be back" on so-and-so date, etc. It was a new world to me. This is a great shot and looks like a great place to live.

It looks lovely there and the surrounding countryside - great shot, and I am really enjoying the view of a little piece of America. I wonder what the temperature was, because it looks to be a similar day to that here right now. I live in a village in the countryside in England, and wouldn't want to live anywhere else, cos everyone is so friendly. I love walking my dogs, and saying hi! to whoever passes by. Hmmm? must take my camera out with me tomorrow.

I keep looking for mom and pop cafes but they are disappearing.I found one recently in Terrell Texas where you can eat a great meal for $4.unheard of in Texas. I bet the food was good also here at ain't B's bakery. I can taste the home made pies.dang it, now I am hungry.
