I have always liked 'llIustration' and tend to produce it either as Cover Art or Sequential imagery. The former is probably the more challenging because of the balance that needs to be struck between form and content, decoration and narrative. Cover Art, like the short story, gets a limited shot at indicating what lies beneath the cover. My current preoccupation has been described, and I think aptly, as 'nostalgic sci fi and pulp'. And someone also suggested that it might be a little too late to revive the 'adventure genre'.
Stylistically, I'm keen on the commercial illustration of the mid 20th Century that was made to promote 'mass' publication (especially children's annuals, pulp magazines and comics). There is so much creativity and artistic competence to found on the covers and within the pages of even the most mundane examples.
It is over the last 7 years that I have started to use, and like, digital media. My working methods are still a little too intuitive and involve the usual squinting and standing back that one associates with traditional media, but I am enjoying making imagery more than ever and would now like to explore the possibilities of illustrating written stories (preferably by working with an author).
Interests: Commercial illustration and sequential imagery of the mid 20th Century that was made to promote 'mass' publications (especially children's annuals, pulp magazines and comics).

Great realisation of an illustration. At once the tone of " I wish I was in the land of cotton..." came to my mind. Excellent work.

Excellent! You really did a great job of capturing the muted pallet of an old-style book illustration (kinda reminds me of the history books in my elementary school library). The POV is very dramatic and helps convey a sense of urgency to the scene. I really FEEL like they are rushing toward me through the tall autumnal grass. One thing that has fully engaged me is the expression on the face of the guy to our right. At one moment I think it’s excessively exaggerated, and the next moment I think it’s a perfect depiction of his rage as he charges up that hill. I also want to make what is probably the nit pickiest comment I’ve ever made ;-) I wonder if the composition might not be improved just a little bit if that same man were tilted just a little more to our right. That would create a stronger “arrowhead layout” between him, the center man and the guy who was just shot. What I mean is, that change might increase the sense of movement by pulling our eyes down toward the feet of the center man. Anyway, just a thought. As I said, I love it!

Sheesh! Another super rendering. I'm not as sure about mmitchells comment about moving to the right. It may work, but the negative space between the main character and the soldier to the right is simply marvelous! In fact, this is a perfect study of the superb use of negative space to create a dynamic and visually interesting image. Keep up the great work!

I love your style, it's so original and you always put it to such interesting use. You can really see the painted effect on the soldier's pant legs; that just doesn't happen in a pure 3D render. Great job.
