Description

On day five, and our final day in London, we took the tube to the Tower of London. We did not tour the tower, as the line was so long it wound around the site. We did capture a few images of the tower. The list of execution victims is long and filled with historically important names. In the Welsh Triads, it is written that the head of Bran the Blessed, Ancient King Of Britain, was buried in London where the White Tower now stands. As long as it remained there, Britain was said to be safe from Norman invasion. According to legend, King Arthur dug up the head, declaring the country would be protected only by his own great strength. The invasion of Britain by the Normans came shortly thereafter. There are links to the still-current practice of keeping ravens at the Tower of London under the care of Yeomen Warder Ravenmaster, and with the story of Bran the Blessed, whose name means raven. Interesting myth: King Arthur was supposed to have lived just after the Romans left England, say the early 6th century, whereas Hastings, as we all know, was 500 years later. Nice pic. I had the luck to spend a day at the tower, which was not enough time! Wonderful place, full of great history.
