Description

Captured 8/25/07 during the parade celebrating the 50th birthday anniversary of my city. Wow, I had a heck of a time trying to decide which genre to place this under. What was with this dude? I was temporarily taken aback by his unexpected action, most smart and quick, and almost forgot to click the shutter. I was never saluted before like this, even in the Army, and those were only limp return salutes by uninterested officers. No nonsense tolerated in this case, that's for sure. Talk about taking your job seriously. In any event, this crew wore what I consider unique uniforms, even for a marching band. No bright colors and glitter here. And what is with the bird claw design on the chest? In fact, if I didn't know better, I would say this was some kind of black-clad military death squad often seen in the various futuristic fascist states portrayed in science fiction movies. The only thing missing was their visored helmets. Fahrenheit 451...we're here to burn all the books and iPods! And I don't know about the guy on the left of the pic carrying the tuba. Wasn't he supposed to be marching in line with the other tuba players? And the fellow on the right is just bursting with enthusiasm. What a bunch of happy campers! Anyway, it was gratifying being saluted. An absolute sign of respect, no matter the source. Have a fun and frolic Friday!

A woman once brought a small oil painting of people sitting on a curb watching parade over for my wife to put on the wall. She said my sons and I were just like those people. A lot of very different motivations occupy the members and the viewers of a parade. You were ready. The shot got taken. What you were doing just before or just after this is irrelevant.

Jeepers, I have to agree about those uniforms. I thought they were some SciFi characters until I decided a tuba or a trumpet wasn't a weapon of the future... That guy on the left...if looks could kill they'd be stuffing you in a body bag. And chuckles on the right is being pulled along by a tractor beam.... I assume the guy in the back is making sure they don't attack any innocent bystanders until they can be put back in their cages... Totally wacko shot. I love it. :-)

Ever see the no-budget Canadian scifi flick STARSHIP INVASIONS (with Christopher Lee slimmoing as the villain)? His costume there resembled that worn by these bizarre individuals. Wow, what a great study in faces! They're probably separated rrom their drum'n'bugle corps but I prefer to think of them as Spaced Invaders.

Gotta love that snappy salute! That gentleman appears to be doing what makes him happy. He is INTO it! He gets high marks from me for fully participating. I'm glad you gathered your wits enough to push the button, my friend. This is a great capture!

LOL....The guy that really looks good is the one in the white-shirt behind everyone. I don't think the rest of them have any idea what they are doing....lol But at least you got a salute for some reason unknown... Excellent shot of these happy marchers. Aloha

I have to say, this is a most interesting and at a same time a most strange shot. What is with this guy who knows? Sure serious, and this outfit reminds me some alien movie and these guys are here to evolve with normal humans....well they try I guess...lol. Great capture of the moment Harry!

Okay, they're NOT science fictional characters...yet! This is a great shot, unexpected and quite surreal. Everything in this picture fits together perfectly, but you do have to wonder what world you've just photographed. Excellent work! I am glad I discovered it AND your gallery.
