Description

...On the whole, this distant aspect of the Castle satisfied K's expectations. It was neither an old stronghold nor a new mansion, but a rambling pile consisting of innumerable small buildings closely packed together, and one or two stories; if K. had not known that it was a castle, he might have taken it for a little town...." --Franz Kafka/The Castle Prague Castle IS something of a small city within Prague. It is dominated by the cathedral named for Saint Vitus, but as you climb the hill and wander the castle proper, you realize (with all of the buildings, gardens, and streets) that you are somewhere...different. Ironically, the Franz Kafka Museum stands near the bank of the Vltava River, and you can see it and the castle at once; you can walk from one to the other in less than 30 minutes. Unfortunately it's just off the right edge of the picture that I took. Oh well... As always, thank you for viewing and commenting! I hope you enjoy this picture as much as I enjoyed the day on which I took it.

Trying so hard here Chip to decide if this is early evening or morning light. The light is so lovely, the castle looks protected by the tiny village below. I would love to see this with my own eyes one day. a superb shot and a wonderful read, as always.. Hugs. Di. xx

This is certainly a treat! I'm so fond of Kafka's work, and to see a bit of his "world" is absolutely fascinating! Your capture is most splendid, can't seem to word this as I would like... but a really superb and breath-taking piece of art! Thank you so much for this, as well as that little bit of history...brilliant!!!!

Way back to the early 60's, I corresponded with a boy from Prague who sent me lots of postcards of his city. Since then Prague has been my No 1 target of visiting and I look forward to doing so, don't know when. Also for this reason, your pictures of the city, e.g. Karlovy Most or Gratchanu are really moving... Frist reson is that you have really done a good job!
