Description
This was a "get the shot now or its gone forever"
photograph of my sister taking our nephews for a short walk in the park. It was her 50th birthday and I was waiting my turn in a game of croquet. I just happened to look up and saw them walking away. I could see that the afternoon light was approaching the "magic hour" so I ran to the sidelines and grabbed my camera. Luckily my zoom lens was attached. I try to make a habit of keeping the camera's meter set to spotmeter. The Nikon F100 was set to aperture priority so I opened the lens to F3.5, and metered off the blue shirt, knowing the camera would set a fast shutter speed. I fired 2 fast shots and this was the best. If the camera had been set to matrix metering the image would have been exposed for the bright areas and rendered the subjects too dark. I rarely use the camera set at full automatic. Except for weddings or other events
where the light levels are mostly constant or with flash, and although there are times when fully automatic is a must, I prefer to be in control of the camera and not the other way around.

My wife turned 50 lately and looks just fine, as does your sister. This is an really nice shot, a slice of life to be kept. Thanks for posting this photo.

I like these kind of shot you can tell they little one in the blue shirt is doing all he can to keep up. and the one in the dark brown shirt is walking in his own world. and the pretty lady in the middle is doing what she can to keep them close to her :-) awesome shot :-)
