Description
I've never done a real honest to goodness outer space piece before, so I guess this would be my first attempt. I had a whole story to go with this, but it was getting a little long, especially for such a simple scene. The short version is that the research vessel Celestra is being moved into a low atmosphere orbit as part of a recovery mission involving a long forgotten cache of Mark II Vipers on the desert moon of Asaris.
The Celestra is a rarely seen, but very cool capital ship in the BSG universe, so I was happy to be able to utilize if for something. The model is the work of Tovette from scifi-meshes.com and the flanking Viper models are the work of J.Hoagland/vanishingpoint.biz, so thanks to both of them.

Wow man! Starting from the background; the nebula looks fantastic, as do the stars. The planet and atmosphere equally impressive. The ship looks great too- particularly since it is being lit from below by the planet- that really adds to the realism.

Very spetacular scene, simple or not, its well done, sometimes simple is best =), not big bsg fan myself but I enjoy an episode from time to time and always liked the Vipers. The Celestra looks quite sturdy. That background is majestic to say the least, good pick.

really like the planet lighting and gasses looming overhead. Beautiful flamage on the ships. Thanks for the pointer to the sources. They look great.

Well done, excellently composed and rendered, and I have to agree, that particular ship IS one of the goodies rarely seen in the battlestar galactica universe. You've more than done justice to it and I'm a bit curious about the story that goes along with the image, no matter how long it may be. Fantastic work! Keep it up. As for this being your first "honest to goodness outer space pice" It's a great one! Keep up the fantastic work.

Looks great, color is right, texture, lighting. Great composition and subject as well. Not sure if you intended or not but the nebula BG looks a lot like the original opening shot of "Saga of a Star World" which found it's way into the intro of every original episode.
