Description

Saint Matthews Church is located in Westminster. The land was consecrated on June 30th, 1851, and building began shortly thereafter. The area it is in was at one time one of the poorest neighborhoods in London. Charles Dickens described it as the "Devil's Acre". The original church was burned to the ground by an arsonist in 1977, and re-opened on November 29th, 1984. Image captured 09/15/2007. Copyright 2007 Flicker Light Studio(tm).
