Description

Hi folks. Oh yeah. I'm starting off this week reeeeally well...Not! For your enjoyment, here's a classic example of Marlene putting her great, big, fat stupid foot in her mouth... I just joined a camera club, and my first meeting is this Wednesday, and there will be a competition that night. All of those photos will then go on to compete with images from other clubs on Long Island, and then statewide and bla bla bla... Anyway, I wanted to feel part of things,( since I've missed a few meetings ), so I submitted two photos to be shown that night. One of them is this pic. But I needed a title. I had a working title for it, 'Kiss', but it was boring, so I thought, oooh! I'll be fancy and change it to 'Kiss Me' , but I'll say it in French... How elegant that will be!!! ( I'm sure you French-speaking folks already know my horrible mistake, but I'll explain it anyway, for those that don't ). I would never say I 'speak' French,( having only taken one course in college ), but I did know that the verb ' to kiss', in French , was 'baiser'. So, I simply conjugated the verb and added 'moi'. Voila! Simple, right? Well, just now, out of curiousity, I thought I'd go online , just to make sure that I conjugated the verb correctly, ( because heaven forbid, I make myself sound foolish to anyone that might actually speak French )...And that's when I discovered, that conjugating the verb correctly, was the very, very least of my problems, sigh. Because stupid Marlene didn't say, 'kiss me' at all. Oh no. Not even close...Let's just say 'elegant' is probably the very, very last word that would come to anyone's mind if they knew what my title meant... 8^O And, of course, it can't be changed. That godawful title is going to haunt me now, for the rest of the year. Oh yeah, nothing like making a great first impression, Marlene, lol. I sure hope no one in the New York camera clubs speaks fluent French...Think I stand a chance? Me too...Sigh. -Me :^) PS I hope no one gets offended by my little story. I thought it was funny in an only-this-crap-happens-to-me kinda way, lol. thumb_1536904.jpg"Paige Turner"

The image should do it..perhaps the others don't speak French any better. Those lips are natural? Fine shot.

Yes Tom. The lips are totally natural. Wish I had them. Thank Jock. But I really doubt it. Besides, once they find out what my title means, I'll be lucky if they don't throw me out. :^/

Nice going - you could always hide the error by just saying it was artistic licence or a comment on society's perceptions of the french language and "love" as a theme and how we will accept anything french as romantic... or something, hehe. As for the shot, loving the simplicity of the "idea". Nice use of focus too - the rest of the photo is soft and that draws the eye to the lips as well as the colour. She seems to have lost the glisten on her right side of her lip tho :(

If these don't leave "Lipstick on your collar" no lips do LOL Very artistic work Marlene, You have turned out to be a pro with these glamour shots. I actually learned french for three years in school, but all is gone with the wind, except: Voulez vous coucher avec moi? but I guess it is impropriate LOL.

If you weren't so educated and didn't take a language in college, none of this would have happened..lol you should have called it "Paige's playful pucker" or sumptin like dat. I think anyone who speaksFrench will understand what you were going for and I wouldn't worry too much about New Orkers or Lung gilanders knowing much French..lol Hope you win and I hope they don't kick you out of the club...lol When you get a chance, tell me what does your club actually do besides contests...take care

Oh my, Gun, you devil! LMAO! Rich: I think you mean her left side of her lips, but I won't be picky, lol. That's simple. The flash was held out to my left so it lit the right side of her face more...But thank you. And maybe I'll work your spin on it, even if it is a quite vulgar saying. ;^) Ray: They have competitions that eventually go statewide. Also, they have lecture series and workshops on various camera, lighting and photoshop techniques. In fact, next week I'm actually giving them a class on OOB's and photo manipulation. Wish me luck. It's my first time doing something like that... :^O

Why does it need to revolve around a kiss, I mean the description of a kiss? I see it more like 'Anticipation' would be a nice title. Possible even 'Longing for the moment'. Make it less obvious and more mysterious. Have a wonderful week and thank you for sharing. egmont

Hahah! My googleing of Baiser Moi was exactly what I thought it would be... Actually, you might get more attention with the Faux-Pas title! Of course you must also realise that I am laughing my ass off right about now :P !! But look at the bright side, there was a movie with the same title (and it meant the same thing) so I think it will be OK... this time... :> Beautiful capture though- great placement of the lighting - really pops out! Oh, and while we are on the subject of language specific nuiances- don't ever mention anything about a fanny in New Zealand- it means something entirely different from booty or butt... hehehe.

Well that is hilarious and I can only imagine what it actually translates to (but I have a very, very vivid imagination LOL!) This is an excellent shot though, superb details on those beautiful lucious lips - I could see this being used as a billboard advertisement for Rimmel lipsticks or something similar. Good luck with the competition, although I'm sure you won't need it!! Hugs xx

(Seems I have called him 'balls' -yup, those particular male ones-) In dutch it sounded so nice though.. Charley

I imagine you'll be very popular at your new club!!!!! Yes I have holidayed in France so am familiar with the phrase, usually with '-vous' conjegated rather tham '-moi' & generally used a lot at football matches. It's a fantastic shot, a hilarious story, why worry? Better, they say, to have something to regret than nothing to remember. Title may even get you a few extra votes from the 'avant-garde'....
