The effect is fairly simple. The under part of the water is a large, water-textured cube. The surface of the water is a much flattened, bumpy, water-textured terrain, which has been fitted snugly to the top of the cube. below the cube is a sand-textured ground plane, and above the cube, a spotlight with a ripple patterned gel. The cube is placed right in front of the camera, so that it looks both over and under the surface of the water.
