Description

Yup - this is actually a big fly... no idea what it was: a fly with gigantism or a different species to your normal house fly but this thing was about the length of the end bone in your thumb / 3-4 times the size of your everyday housefly - and looked pretty much exactly the same but HUGE! (oh - and it was taken in peru, so dont worry those who live elsewhere, you may be saved the fright of facing this beast ;) ) Anyway - it made for some easy macro pickings :) I love the detail i managed to get with this shot - and it seems f/8 was a bit too thin on DOF - gotta remember that when i am taking macros...shame about the composition :( although i tried my best with the crop. Hope you like it, thanks for stopping by. Rich

Fantastic detail of an intriguing creature; there are, indeed, some fairly large flies in sufficiently warm areas, as this picture attests, and the artistry involved in this shot is obvious as well! Great work, and now I'm gonna go and try and find out what kind of fly this is.

Nice one...the dof on macros is always thin, but you nailed the focus here. Only crit is the spelling error in your text..."phtography"

The composition's okay. Plus, if you hadn't pointed out the thin DOF only like 5 people out of 100 would've noticed because HOLY SHIT IT'S A GIANT FLY. It's a pity there's nothing else in the shot to compare it to size-wise so you could see just how big it was, but I know that when you're taking a macro of an insect it's awfully hard to get anything else even remotely in focus. The detail on this is amazing, you can see the little compound eyes and everything. Unbelievable.
