I can imagine how this was made .. metal often turns colors when it's heated, so I see someone with a blow torch heating the larger piece from underneath to acheive this beautiful flower like base piece. The more intricate central design is actually another piece overlaying the bottom piece. It is silver, and carefully cut, pounded into shape, and polished to achieve that wonderful molded look. And you thought it was a fractal! LOL!
