Description

Actually this highway is leading to Puerto Deseado. It is the 125km long stretch of RN (Ruta Nacional) 281 from the RN3 junction at Fitzroy to Puerto Deseado in Santa Cruz Province, Patagonia. It is paved, well maintained, 90% of it is straight, and has no traffic to speak of. At one point I saw some sheep in the distance and on another occasion one Rhea, an ostrich type bird. This picture was taken in December 2003. Thanks for looking and commenting on my previous uploads. Have a nice day. Reading the first comment to this picture I want to elaborate on this. I have lived in Arizona for 34 years and have worked for the Arizona Dept. of Water Resources for 22 years. During those 22 years I have driven all over the State in 4x4 vehicles. Often entire days without seeing a soul,30-40 miles away from the nearest paved road. One learns to depend on the 4x4, carry at least 5 gallons of water,or, in winter carry enough gear to survive a night if necessary. I have also been all over the American Southwest, Western Canada, and Alaska. But usually, there is sometimes a sign of civilization. A windmill for instance, or a cattle guard, or a fenceline, or maybe a single line telephone or power pole. But in Southern Patagonia, away from Eastern Coast, there is nothing. I imagine that the American Southwest must have looked like this around the 1850s, but certainly not today anymore. But this is the charm of Patagonia, it is empty-and I hope it stays this way during my lifetime.

Wow, that's empty! And I thought there was a lot of nothingness in Eastern Colorado and Western Kansas, here in the U.S.! Your photo of that road makes I-70 between Colorado and Kansas look absolutely filled with stuff by comparison! Nice shot, and I hope you don't have to go that way very often, at least not by yourself!

First thing that came to mind was how perfectly straight you have captured the horizon, maybe because of the vast open space. Great pov. and also found the narative a fascinating read. Thanks for sharing.
