Description

This one started out as just messing around with a symmetrical lattice in the Terrain Editor. I discovered buried deep in the B6 Help file that holding down the Alt key while using the Posterize function produces a pixellated terrain that can look just a like a man-made structure. So, I thought to myself, this is how everyone creates those amazing cityscapes!! A volumetric slab for the fog, and 150 trees later, here is the result. I can’t remember who the sky belongs too, but I tweaked it only a little as it was so good. I think it came from the Bryce 6 content DVD. The palm trees can be found here: http://www.bryceworks.com/objects_dl/btopalms/btoplams.html All the rest is my own work with no postwork. Rendered using HDRI, which I use increasingly as I think it’s worth the much longer render time. My poor Pentium 3.2GHz machine does strain under the load a bit though! ;-) I also suffered from the dreaded 2GB filesize blowout when creating this image. On two occasions in fact. I think it may have been a particular tree preset I was using (autumn_apple4.bto I think?) Whenever I added too many of those, the .br6 file just corrupted. It coped fine with other tree presets though. The filesize of this image is only about 75MB – not bad considering the number of trees in it. I tried to evoke a sense of mystery and intrigue in this image, perhaps an ancient and powerful civilization that has long since vanished, swallowed by the jungle it once thought it could control… Hope you like it and I always appreciate any comments!

Excellent work, the mist is really good, adds to the atmosphere of the scene, without it the image would look flat. I can see that the trees would really strain a machine to render that lot!!!One of your best.5++++

Nice work! Love the mysterious feel to this. Looks like your computer might have had a rough time. My old computer wouldn't even touch Bryce 6. On the other hand, I was running Photoshop 5.5 with 128Mb of ram, so who knows? ;)

I think you did an excellent job achieving the feeling you set out for per your commentary. Regards file sizes, presets, crashes; I've had similar experiences, most recently in Br6.1 - it helps reduce the 'out of memory' if one saves often & try putting in the volumes/volumerics/atmospherics last.

Exceptional work, always great when new ways are found in Bryce, I guess they put a lot of hidden features in the prog to keep us on our toes lol! Excellent!

Fantastic work! I wasn't familiar with the pixelation trick, either, but now I'll have to try it out. Very cool render.
