Mandalay a été fondé par le roi Mindon 1852. Le palais royal était une véritable cité impériale de presque 4 kms de côté, établit au centre du campus royal protégé par une immense muraille en brique
Durant la II Guerre Mondiale, la ville tomba aux mains des Japonais (de 1942 à 1945) et le fort fut utilisé comme entrepôt. Quand il fut bombardé par les Britanniques, le palais royal, qui était en bois, partit en fumée. Il n´est rien resté
Aujourd´hui il existe un seul témoignage de ce que devrait être la fabuleuse Cité Impéraile Une chambre totalement en teck scupté était une des merveilles du Palais jusqu'à la mort de la reine Setkyadevî
Le roi Thibaw son fils (dernier roi de Mandalay, de 1878 à 1885), refusant d'y vivre, le fit démonter, transporter hors de l'enceinte du fort et transformer en monastère (ce qui lui évita la destruction).
Tout ce qui reste des fastes et merveilles de la dynastiie de Manday est aujourd´hui le Monastère de Shwenandaw Consideré maudit par les rois, il fut le seul à échaper á la destruction
Mandalay was rested by the king Mindon 1852. The Royal Palace was a true imperial city from almost 4 kms on side, establishes in the center of the royal campus protected by an immense brick wall

All that remains of wonders of the dynastiie of Manday is today the Monastery of Shwenandaw Considerated which cursed by the kings, it was the only one with was saved of the destruction

Look at the carvings on that...teak is a very hard wood...it must have taken a lot of artisans a long time to carve this room. It is truly beautiful and or image is spectacular :D
