Here are some of the things I do while at work. My job as an ad designer certainly has little to do with 3d rendering; but I manage to goof around all day and then try to integrate what I've done into my work. So far I've succeeded every time, and the results are working on my favor.BIOHere's how it happened, in a nutshell: I eventually wound my way into being the webmaster of my company, a direct marketing services organization. They said, ok, you know HTML, you also do some print ads (mostly bulk faxes in black and white), get us going with HTML emails that you can send out.
So basically I get to goof off drawing pictures at work, and then try to justify what I've spent my time on by sticking it into an ad. Very refreshing to work in color after doing faxes! Sometimes I don't even know what the ad will be for, but I start drawing anyway. Then I look at my schedule and see where I can stick it in. So far, I haven't missed yet, and as a result of all of this, my company has the best looking HTML ads of anyone in the industry if direct mail (which is a pretty boring place, let me tell you)! I get lots of positive feedback from clients, recipients and my superiors.
Now, what I do you can't really compare to most of the other artists you see here. They usually know their stuff pretty well. I'm just learning and killing time until I land a multi-million dollar record deal and get a private jet to boot, just like Bon Jovi. But in the meantime, as I am not holding my breath on that one, feel free to comment on my work and offer some suggestions. There's lots more where it came from!
