Description

I was way, way up in the cheap seats during the extravaganza staged for the tourists at the Tibetan hotel complex where I stayed for a night. Unbelievably, one of my many attempts at a full-zoom, no-flash capture of the action actually paid off! The fullsize one is worth a look. Northern Sichuan abuts the eastern edge of the Tibetan plateau, which is why the mountainous areas there are populated mostly with ethnic Tibetans. If it weren't for tourism, there would be no opportunities for these people but subsistence farming. Or leaving.

What a shot, amazing. The long zooma and flat perspective plays all kinds of tricks with depth - I could swear the pool surface is tilted. But she's still dry! Guess that makes is extra artistic and thought provoking.
