Description

The First working Locomotive in the world 1802. Trevithick a Cornish mining engineer and inventor is credited with building the first steam locomotive. Drawings in the Science Museum London, and there are entries in a ledger in the Ironbridge Gorge Musums archives listing various components which Trevithick purchased for the construction. It actually ran at Pen-y-Darren ironworks near Merthyr Tydfil South Wales. Trevithick sold his patents to the ironworks proprietor Samuel Homfray and during a bet with another Ironworks owner, on 21 Feb 1804 it successfully carried 10 Tons of iron, 5 waggons and 70 men 9.75 miles (16Km) at a speed reaching 5 mph. and took 4 hours & 5 minutes. And just to point out that it wasn't until later that George Stephenson designed his "Rocket" in 1814 and is famous for building the Worlds first Public Railway line for the use of steam locomotives. Hope you like and I welcome any comments. Postwork I erased a couple of people wearing baseball caps etc. and added smoke from another shot. Thanks for viewing.

You have done great with this Alan, you forgot to mention in the background you can see the scale model of the Ironbridge. Exceptional postwork, you are really getting to grips with Elements now, I can see nothing in this that would date it this century except maybe the railings, they would have been a bit more ornate me thinks. Bravo!!!!!

Oh forgot to add. This is a working replica of Trevithick's Locomotive, with some modifications and materials constructed for the Museum thanks to the funding by GKN Sankey, Telford and National Vulcan. can be seen operating on special weekends and other occasions during the season.

A very authentic old time photo. I'm not sure what photography was in those years. I think this is probably much better than it would have been then. By today's digital standards, this is a wonderful old photo. Your postwork is incredible. I never would have known you removed anyone or anything and the addition of the smoke is a fantastic touch.

I like to ponder the considerations it would require to revisit the creations of these pioneers and duplicate their acheivement. It usually baffles me. Thank you so much for enlightening entries, here.
