Description

I have been saving this post from my summer vacation until Remembrance Day approached. This was taken just outside of Krka National Park in an area that was on the front lines during the Croatian War of Independance. This is a memorial to the soldiers from the region that died in the Second World War and is now scarred by the effects of the Croatian War of Independence. One wonders how the memorial came to be full of bullet holes. Was it used as shelter during a gun fight? Was it defaced to spite the other side? Was it even noticed in the heat of battle? For those of us that enjoy peace right now it is a reminder that it has not always been nor may it always be this way.

Its a pity that even now, after all is quiet and there is the chance, that no one comes to weed and tend the grass. Wonderful shot.
