there are currently 6 species of macaw that are extinct today, they are, dominican green and yellow,jamaican green and yellow, jamaican red, lesser antillian, cuban red, saint croix. and there are hyacinth, great green, red fronted, blue headed all endagnered and glaucous,lears, blue throated, all critcal with the blue winged near threatened, and the spix is so endagered it it is extinct in the wild. they are the largest of the parrot family. the inhabit the whole of the southern amricas and eat fruits and nuts. they have a lifespan of up to 100 years and are highlt intelligent. they mate for life. hybrids have been bred for primarily for the pet trade, this being a picture of one.
