I was out chasing another storm and had found a nice spot to pull over and try to snap some shots. The lightning was frequent, and I was seeing plenty of both cloud to cloud, and cloud to ground strikes. I set up my gear, and snapped a few dozen shots, hoping to capture a really nice strike. There were many cloud to cloud strikes directly overhead, but I didn't want to aim the camera upwards as it was sprinkling lightly, and I hate getting water spots on the lens. It was at about this point I began to contemplate the wisdom (or lack thereof) of standing between my truck, and the large metal tripod to which my camera was attached. Excitement overcame common sense, and I continued to shoot away. Within minutes, I managed to capture this strike which originated from the sky behind me and touched down a few hundred yards ahead of me.
