location: Berlin, Gendarmenmarkt, Schauspielhaus The theatre at the Gendarmenmarkt was part of the Festival of Lights 2007 as several years before, together with the other two beautiful buildings here, the French and the German dome. Lets explain my last pic, the "Ghost rider": Yeah, it looks like a statue of Napoleon Bonaparte after the battle of Waterloo: Beaten, depressed, a wounded soul - and I had to smile about your impressions.....because This statue shows king Friedrich II. the Great of Preussen (1712-1786) Friedrich II. was the leading german speaking monarch of his time, when a state named "Germany" not existed. King Friedrich reigned more then 40 years and guided his kingdom to one of the leading european great powers of the time. He was a brilliant brain, an excellent military leader and a monarch with religious tolerance. His role he described as "the first servant of the state". This king is well respected and beloved here till today, and he was a light for many generations after him who tried to act like he did. After this lesson in history lets smile about us here: We here in Berlin call him "the great", but I´m shure the most of you have never heard of him, right?....LOL... So what means "The great"? Nothing.... Some of the great women and men of our days think about themselves as greats, but they are only small lights, and others will be called "great" in our future.....
