Description

This is Thomas Corbett, he worked at the local Coal Mine, which was owned by the Madley Wood Company. This was the only mine that supplied free candles to its miners(before, all miners had to buy their own). The owner had specially coloured candles(green) and any employee found with green candles at home had obviously stolen them. Thanks for stopping by for a look and for any comments that you care to make. May the sun shine down on you where ever you are.

I'm sorry there isn't much text to this one, I was in a bit of a rush. To add to the above, on the right hand side on the table you can see what looks like a pile of rags. It is a pile of rags, he was demonstrating how to make a peg rug, for those that are not aware, it is a rug made with old bits of cloth, I made a few as a child. You have a piece of course hessian and you thread a strip of cloth through with a large needle style implement, you then loop it through itself and pull back. This creates tufts and when finished you have a rug. I remember having one at the side of my bed, something warm to stand on whilst you got undressed, warmer than the linoleum that we had on our floor. They were also a comfort for those with stone floors. Or has in the case of this cottage for people with no floors. Tomorrow, in the bedroom.

Another good shot jeff, its great to see all these people in the little cottages, and their story that goes with it. Now I know how busy you were with your camera while I was over at the Hay incline and the Mission church. I always try to look for something modern day since you noticed the Harness maker with a tube of glue! to the right under the table on closer inspection he has a modern backpack with zips and motif ! Nike or something like!

Full view is wonderful. Everything looks period (with the exception of the gym bag, complete with plastic water bottle) and I especially like the tinware. Thanks for taking interior shots!

Super composition yet again!!! :-) Great shot with so much to look at. When you mentioned the peg rug it brought back memories of my late mom who if you asked her what she was doing she would answer sarcastically "Pegging a rug, why who wants to know?":-)Your images really stir up my longing for 'home' Thank you for posting them and reminding me of England (((Hug))) Hugs PS Thank you so much for your very wonderful comments on 'My First Portrait' they mean such a lot to me.

A wonderful shot Jeff, I love stepping back in time. My Mum used to make rag mats, we had them in every room in our house. A guy in bay is making them to sell now!! Have a good evening, thank you for much needed sunshine :-) Bitterly cold on the North East coast tonight, snow given for weekend. I'll keep ye posted our lad. Hugs. Diane. xx
