Description

By definition, Lantes 4, components A and B, are a binary planet, as both bodies circle a common mass point between themselves. Additionally, the smaller planetary component, (Lantes 4 B) is tide locked to its more massive companion, thus someone standing on the surface of the larger world will see only one face of the smaller planetary companion. Adding to the complexity of this mass-gravity system are two smaller satellites, Lenka and Hanka. The farther moon, Hanka describes a serene, oblate orbit, while Lenka is carried along a more eccentric (though stable) orbital course. The Lantes system is human-inhabited, and the complex mass/grav nature of Lantes 4 makes it a particularly treacherous system for interstellar traffic, as the Lantes 4 gravity well is riddled with micrometeor swarms, trapped within its gravitation labyrinth. All vessels entering the system are required to surrender pilot and navigational control and plotting to the guidance computers maintained by Lantes Traffic Authority. *** This was just me playing around with photoshop and using planetary textures captured from puckered wallpaper found in a dumpster. As always, thank you for viewing and for your great comments on past works. Hopefully you enjoy this and are staying a bit warmer than I am on this unexpectedly chilly night.

Nice one. You were very creative in both your source-materials for this, and in your story about it. The best part is, it's plausible! Such a system could exist, and humans are stubborn enough to inhabit such a place, too! Which reminds me: I keep meaning to show you a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1dAedHmsuk It's about making explosions in Photoshop, but it's also great for Nebulae, and such.

Very creatively done. It's always all in the textures. I think they make or break any 2D or 3D digital work.

Very striking space art like that more often scene when I was growing up. Since there were not real pictures of the known planets, artist conceptions were placed into even the most respectable of text books. It provided quite a sense of adventure and no doubt inspired a few young astronomers. Just out doing some time traveling tonight. Take care.
