I think Ruanomar is correct. My powerful google-fu identified ERB's Barsoom series was first serialized in 1912 (thus the sector reference). I guess a Thark decided to honor the greatest hero of his planet when he assumed the ring. One quibble though; usually the Tharks are depicted as green. In any event, a wonderful render, Junfan!

The blue head just doesn't feel right to me... green head would fit with the name and costume. Blackness for the eyes too seem "corpsed"... eyes to show expression would help this character too. Overall, I think you did a really good job on it. If the name is John Carter, It still does not mean a thing to me, because I never followed the green lantern series... The only thing I know about green lanter is he can do and make things with his powerfull ring... I know he use to have white skin and somewhere down the line, they decided to start making him black skinned, so I really know very little on this character.
