Description
Since being here in Dortmund, I've noticed an odd bluish light off in the distance on some nights. I always thought it was the green light emanating from something that looks suspiciously like a power plant (and I won't even venture to guess WHY the light is green.) As I was walking from the store yesterday, I noticed the light again, only it was a more clearly defined blue, and from a building I pass on a daily basis. I was intrigued by the color and since I had my camera with me, I snapped this shot, just as a bicyclist was zooming buy. Dortmunders don't particularly like having their pictures taken, so if I'd planned on getting this bicyclist, I probably wouldn't have.
As always, I was tempted to play with this image, but I fought my impulse so what you see is exactly how it appeared...just resized for posting here...and as always, thank you for viewing and commenting! I may be disappearing soon as well, becuase I am heading back to Prague...the only thing is I don't know where I am staying yet, nor am I certain of any internet capabilities since Czech internet has a few unexpected idiosyncracies...but until then, I'll be posting.

Magical image, really. The soft blur works great to enhance the sense of loneliness, alienation... I'm not sure how to describe it. You know, I had this experience once in my life, being alone in the middle of the night, with nowhere to go. Your photo brings that mood to me. Thank you. This is fantastic! I like the strong blue light at the back combined with the dark mood at the front. The chap on the bike would almost be unseen if it were not for his red tail light. Super photo, very well done!

Wonderful mood and lighting. :-) Personaly I don't really see the isolation or loneliness here that a few others have mentioned, but that's just me. When I look at a photo I am drawn into the shoes of the photographer, so to speak, taking his/her place and seeing the scene through his/her eyes. When I look at this image the bicyclist actually tells me that I am not alone, that there are still other people around, even if they may just be passing by. But that's just me. :-) Oh, and if you ever go back to the Ruhrgebiet you might like to check out the Landschaftspark Duisburg. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landschaftspark_Duisburg-Nord) I haven't been there myself, but some of the photos I've seen look like you could find some rather interesting subjects there for moody light and nighttime shots.
