All that soft bright green is now gone, giving the savage pallet of autumn. The leaves take flight. They shower down to cover the ground. It is like a beauty left behind. The palm trees here are still green. I watched the new alligator in the pond yesterday. I heard some young women and girls chattering in what sounded like German on the bird watching tower. I wondered how to break in. Madgkens, frauleins, schones wetter nicht wahr? or Sprechen sie Deutsche. But then what would I say as the torrent of recognition came? Ein bischen. Etwas langsamer bitte. Better to leave the lilt of their music playing in my ears. How could I say don't catch cold? kalt is all I know. Catch is out of my phrases.
