Description

American English: Cattail British English: Bulrush This was taken down at my in-law's new place just outside of Napavine, Washington. There's something fun and fascinating about cattails, isn't there?

What a pretty picture. It reminds me of my childhood on the farm where we had many cattails growing along the little creek at the bottom of the hill. It also reminds me of the red-winged blackbirds that built nests in them, or at least near them (I'm too old to remember the fine details).

They've always been special to me. I used to pick a bundle of them for my Grandma all the time; she just adored them; and she'd put them in a huge glass vase in her livingroom - they'd last for months. :) This makes me think of her and her cattails... thanks you :)

i love cattails. You can use the yellow pollem on them in place of flour and make bread and you can eat the roots too. cool shot

Oh wow, call it what you will, but to me that is a weiner on a stick! Slab some mustard on it and away we go! Of course, would first have to scrape those little particles off the skin but that's okay. Wonderful clarity, colors and composition in this macro, Tara. BTW, after sitting here for a while and being lulled into a state of near somnambulance by the hum of my desktop computer, I often hit the old sofa for a nap or three during the day and/or evening.
