Description
Captured 7/28/07, probably in the early morning, somewhere in town.
I have no idea as to the species of this tree, which are situated all over the place. The bark appears to be in a seasonal state of splitting and/or molting, but it's perpetual, always at this stage, all year round. The layers can be pulled off by hand, but they're not shed off naturally onto the ground. Plus, the leaves are nothing to write home about. The kind of growth you might see in an evil forest movie.
I don't know, maybe there's a hidden beauty in their ugliness, but I could live without them aesthetically very well, thank you.
Thanks for the visit, and do everything I wouldn't do.

Everything has beauty. Just its harder to find on somethings:). Great textures in this image.

Dianthus: I disagree wholeheartedly that everything has beauty. That's covering a lot of territory. Like where's the beauty, among other things, in Alzheimer's disease, cancer, a heart attack, a severed limb, a burnt corpse, the emaciated body of a starving, fly-ridden, Ethiopian child, or road kill? I could go on, but I won't.

Great Shot !

I think this is a paper bark tree Harry. We have many here down under. They all splitting like this time to time. This way they shed their "skin". Love the pastel color of the skin and a layered texture revealed by a splitting.

Wow. This is a fabulous texture shot, my friend! We don't have anything like that up here. The light is just phenomenal. I don't know if what I did today was something you would do or not. I took a nap. It was very nice. :)

What an unusual texture! It was hard for me to tell what it was in the thumbnail, don't have my glasses on, but it could pass for an abstract scary face in a horror movie or something. So interesting to see plants and animals from all over the country and all over the world here on R. Thanks for sharing this, Harry!

this is a great one! I think I have seen these somewhere before. It does look like an abstract scary face! As for doing something you wouldn't do, hmmmm, I vacuumed today... lol, boring I know. Maybe I'll have a Margarita.

Perhaps it is better to say that everything has purpose, sometimes we just don't see it that way. As for beauty... it depends on who is looking. A vulture could see great beauty in all you mention but it's all repugnant to us. This bark is wonderful! I imagine it is excellent for starting fires in the outdoor fire pit. You got some good, deep shadows here that emphasize the curls and cuts of the bark.
