This is a very wonderful and beautiful capture! It is very muck like a painting from one of the Flemish masters. Excellent work!

If Rembrandt had a digital camera, he'd make pictures like this I think. This is a fantastic study of focus and it's incredibly well executed. I particularly love the glare of the light: it's not only alive, but a very definite aspect of the "realism" of the image, rather like conveying the scene through pure light and shadow. Color and form and all of that becomes secondary, which is an intriguing trick to pull off with photography, since the photographic impulse (with me, at least) IS to focus on form and color, instead you take a marvelous sideways step and focus on light and shadow and the whole image--slowly revealing form and color--becomes a dance of light and its opposite. This is stunning work!
