Description

after i came back from alsace, a beautiful piece of france, my mailbox was running over. i tried to answer everything and commented as much as possible, but i may have missed something, for which i am sorry. this very old and delapidated house was going to be restored, i will go back there some day and see what it looks like.

I wish I could know what they will have to do to restore it. I see sagging, and wonder about the condition of the timbers, like is there rot, or termites. And the foundation? This is a great photograph of the structure and textures. I really hope it is restored. Hugs, Suzanne

and I WILL be browsing your gallery, after seeing this one. I love the postwork you did on this -- whatever you did, I love it. I hope the restoration goes well; I'm sure it will. It's amazing how they can restore these old buildings yet still hold onto to its original look.

What lovely flavor this has! When you go back can I stow away? Instead of restoring we just tear it all down and build something new and ugly. I think there is something to be learned. This shot jumped out at me from your gallery. Spectacular.

at first I thought this might have been one of your creations, but of course it's a photo. I've been perusing your gallery, pretty much in love with everything I see, and I stopped at this one because of the stunning break of the surface into so many living segments. It's a house at long last speaking the language of its decay, almost in a swan song and far more colorful & rich than its new facade may have been. In fact, I prefer this version! Sundered of its "finish," it reveals such wonderful patchworks of colors and rough plaster and shredded wood (to die for) and exposed brick, and is as good as the collages of the 20th C., and almost—almost—Japanese, if it weren't for the ragged lines and surfaces. (Japanese with a bad hangover, maybe.) It makes you think of how many articulate worlds lay hidden behind facades, and wouldn't it be nice if for one day all facades could be removed just to let these layers out, to give them air, let them speak a bit. I think this is glorious, and knowing what I know of your sensibilities, it must be the kind of image that arrests as you walk by. A real gem. One almost wishes they preserved it just as is...but then you captured it, so I guess you did their work for them.
